There are two main reasons why spa or hot tub water can turn green; the tap water used to fill the spa or hot tub contains metals such as copper or there is a rapid growth of algea in the hot tub.
If you live in an area where the tap water contains copper, we recommend that you pre-filter the water before filling the hot tub. This should remove the copper from the tap water before it enters your spa or hot tub preventing the water from turning green.
If your spa/hot tub has been exposed to intense sunlight, it is possible that there has been a rapid growth of algae that turns the water green. A chlorine shock should solve this problem.

Foam can be caused by body lotion, hair gel, detergent residues on bathing suits, old water and/or organic pollution in your spa. In order to remove the foam from your spa or hot tub, we would recommend the following:

1.Replace one third of the spa water
2.Rinse filter
3.Add chlorine shock

There should be no need to use foam down/anti foam products.

Below a short checklist of things you should do to maintain the water quality of your hot tub during your ( 3 weeks ) holiday:

Before departure:
1 Lower the temperature of your spa or hot tub.
2 Open all the valves, including the airvalves.
3 Make sure the filter of your spa or hot tub is properly cleaned.
4 Add a normal dosage of Aquafinesse
5 Add a chlorine shock. (we recommend 2 spoons of fast dissolving granular chlorine shock.)

On return:
1 Add chlorine shock.
2 Let the pumps run at full power for about 10 minutes.
3 Check and if needed clean the filter.
4 Raise the temperature. Add normal dosage of AquaFinesse.
5 Relax.

The water of your spa or hot tub can smell bad due to buildup of organic waste and biofilm. The spa or hot tub can be cleaned thoroughly using the AquaFinesse Spa Clean Tablet this releases the biofilm and organic build-up from the sides and the pipes in the hot tub. The AquaFinesse Spa Clean tablet releases a lot of dirt in to the water. It is very important to circulate the water sufficiently and constantly clean the filters during the cleaning process. Clean the filters using AquaFinesse Filter cleaner tabs always change the water after using a Spa Clean tablet. It is generally recommended to change the water in your spa or hot tub every 3 – 4 months. Also make sure that the spa or hot tub cover fits correctly and is not letting any outside water in.

If the water has turned milky, the level of calcium in the water is high and it is possible that the calcium particles are attaching to the walls due to a change in pH, this makes the surface of your hot tub or spa feel rough like sandpaper. In order to solve this, you need to temporarily lower the the pH to 6 using pH minus. This will dissolve the calcium layer. Scrubbing the calcium of the walls and surfaces of your hot tub or spa is not an option. Do not use the spa when pH is low.
Bring the pH of the hot tub or spa water back to normal, pH 7.2-7.8, after the calcium has been dissolved and the filters have had the time to dispose of the calcium. Rinse the filters regularly for better performance during this process.

Milky water is caused by the loosening of calcium, solved in the water into a solid form. The small floating particles of calcium turn the color of the water into milky white.
By activating the pumps 2-3 times a day for 10 minutes, the calcium will be gathered in the filter and can be easily removed by rinsing the filter regularly.
AquaFinesse reduces calcium levels in your spa pool or hot tub water.

The recommended pH level for your spa hot tub or pool is between 7.2 and 7.8.
The ideal pH value for your pool is from 7.4 to 7.6. The alkalinity level should be maintained at minimum 80 ppm to a maximum of 160 ppm with an ideal range of 100 ppm to 140 ppm.
As pH is connected to alkalinity, it is important to measure both at the same time before you adjust the pH.

Yes, as long as the aromatherapy is crystal based and not oil based.

It is important to dose AquaFinesse correctly. AquaFinesse water care has been tested as very safe for humans and animals and a real overdose would mean adding many times more AquaFinesse than recommended. If however, you have any doubts, Please contact us or your dealer, we can help you evaluate the situation and make a recommendation on how to resolve the possible overdose.

Our rule of thumb is to change the spa or hot tub water every 3 to 4 months. This is the same frequency as Spa manufacturers recommend. Over time, water loses its minerals and calcium causing the pH to fluctuate which can no longer be stabilized.

Keeping the filters clean in your spa, pool or Hot tub is one of the most important factors in proper water treatment. AquaFinesse has developed special filter cleaning tabs exactly for this purpose: AquaFinesse Filter cleaner tabs work on the same prinicipal as other AquaFinesse products; AquaFinesse filter cleaner tabs release the biofilm, and debris from the surface of the filter which can then be easily rinsed of. Proper drying of the filter after cleaning increases the effect and longevity of the filter, we recommend purchasing an extra water filter for your Hot tub or spa so that you can rotate filters during cleaning.

As AquaFinesse can release a lot of biofilm and accumulated dirt into the water of your spa or Hot tub, it can be necessary to clean the filters daily during the first 7 – 10 days of using AquaFinesse.

Use AquaFinesse Filter cleaner to thoroughly clean your pool spa or hot tub filter. AquaFinesse filter cleaner works on the same principle as AquaFinesse: It releases the biofilm from the surfaces of the filter after which it can be easily disposed of.

Once the first phase of cleaning is completed and most of dirt and biofilm has been removed by AquaFinesse, you can reduce clean the filter roughly once per week, depending on how intensively your spa or hot tub is used.

We recommend deep cleaning your spa with the AquaFinesse Spa Clean Tablet . The AquaFinesse spa clean tablet is designed to deep clean both the surfaces and the interior pipe work of your spa or Hot tub.
If you have not treated your Hot tub or spa with an AquaFinesse Spa Clean Tablet, the water may become cloudy on initial use of AquaFinesse. This is not a problem and is an indication that AquaFinesse is working correctly; cleaning up your spa thoroughly from inside and out. The cloudiness is caused by the release of biofilm and accumulated dirt.
Depending on the severity of the build-up of biofilm of your spa or Hot tub, the cloudiness should disappear with anywhere from several days to 3 weeks, depending on whether you frequently and correctly clean the filter with AquaFinesse Filter cleaner.
You could consider adding an extra chlorine shock which will clear up the water by oxidizing the floating debris.

No, you do not need to shock the water after starting your spa or Hot tub and before using AquaFinesse.

If you have concerns about the quality of your mains water. if it is from a spring or well, you can shock it. If you do shock the spa or hot tub you should wait 12-24 hours for the free chlorine level to drop before using the Spa of Hot tub.

For the best water care of your spa or hot tub, it is important to use a small amount of sanitizer with AquaFinesse. AquaFinesse releases the bacteria and biofilm from all the surfaces and pipes, the sanitizer kills the bacteria. As the bacteria are floating freely in the water and are no longer protected by the biofilm, a very low concentration of sanitiser (e.g Chlorine or Bromine) is required to actually kill the bacteria in your spa or hot tub water. We refer to the recommended level in your country. AquaFinesse is normally supplied with a chlorine tablet and a slow release dispenser, however this can be substituted for chlorine granules or bromine dependant on personal preference and the spa manufactures recommendations.

Yes, all AquaFinesse products are very simple to use. All AquaFinesse products can be administered within a couple of minutes on a weekly basis.

All AquaFinesse products come with a very easy to understand user manual

AquaFinesse can be used to treat the water in any spa, old or new, as long as it has an effective filtration system with removable and cleanable filters and a means of providing water circulation through the filters for at least 4 hours a day.

If you are starting the water care of a new spa or hot tub, or if you have re-filled your spa or hot tub with clean water, and the water has been shocked using chlorine or bromine, you can switch to using Aquafinesse water care. We recommend that you adjust the pH of the water and alkalinity first.

If chlorine or bromine sanitizers have been used for more than a week, we recommend draining and refilling the spa or hot tub with fresh water and using an AquaFinesse Spa Clean Tablet to deep clean the pipes, surfaces and pumps of the hot tub or spa. This will ensure that all dirt, biofilm, and calcium are removed. After the initial cleaning fill the spa with fresh tap water, if necessary adjust pH and alkalinity and start using AquaFinesse to maintain crystal clear and soft water in your spa or hot tub.
